Nine Minute Math, New Version 1.5
A New Approach to Teaching Basic Math Facts
Nine Minute Math is a highly effective program for memorizing basic math facts over a series of short sessions. The response to each query is added to the student's database. The database is then evaluated to select the best math fact to be presented next for that individual.

Begin today by setting aside a short period for learning math facts and watch each day as steady practice and the assimilation of facts build a life-long foundation of essential knowledge. Between sessions, Nine Minute Math remembers where the student is in the ladder of learning and selects the best next facts for that particular student to work on. Computer and Flash Drive Versions Computer versions of the program may be installed on one PC for use by one or more students taking turns at that workstation. Similarly, Flash Drive versions may be installed on one flash drive and may be used by more than one student. The advantage of the flash drive version is portability. Since the flash drive carries both the program and the personal data of the student(s), students may share the drive and/or carry the drive around and work at any convenient location, e.g., home, school, library, etc, on any available PC with Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. With little or no supervision, students are able to launch the program and complete a surprisingly large number of math fact queries during a short session. Time is not wasted in working problems already mastered or waiting for the teacher to correct and return worksheets. The program is suitable for students at any level of learning -- from the beginner to those simply seeking a tool to refresh their skills. Special provisions are included to assure that beginning students have easy facts while they become comfortable with the process. Higher level students will find that math facts already mastered are swiftly dismissed while those not yet mastered are reinforced with substantial practice. All students will find a positive working atmosphere that rewards excellence and treats mistakes as a learning opportunity. Positive incentives promote learning by trial and error. The beginning response time limit for each math fact is set at 8 seconds to encourage memorization of facts in place of time consuming mental computations or finger counting. Response time for the last 5 presentations of a math fact is reduced to 6 seconds to solidify mastery of the fact. Problems are randomly presented -- but behind the scene, smart electronic flashcards keep track of each child's responses from session to session to assure orderly progress from easy problems to the more complex. At the same time Nine Minute Math adjusts the number of problems to give less practice on those facts already mastered and more practice on those where mistakes seem to pop up. Tips, as appropriate, are displayed. Encouragement is extended by progress indicators, messages of recognition, optional "bell" sounds, Math Facts Session Certificates, Math Facts Completion Certificates, and Progress Reports. Session lengths and performance goals may be set at the beginning of each session but are not rigidly enforced. Sessions may be opened and closed (with work automatically saved) as needed to fit into the lives of today's busy children.
Because Nine Minute Math maintains separate records for each student, several children may share the program on a single computer or flash drive. Installation on a PC requires Windows 98 or higher; use on a flash drive requires a PC using Windows 2000 or higher. Minimum display required is 800 x 600 pixels. Individual purchasers must agree that the program may only be installed on one computer or one portable device/flash drive. School purchasers may install the program on any or all PCs in the facility, independently or on a network. This is the finest software for providing math practice to students whether schooled at home, school, or day care centers. For home use on only one computer with one or more students.
